Marianette Miller-Meeks of Iowa and Nick LaLota of New York said they have received death threats after not voting for Jordan\u2019s speakership bid.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan\u2019s office has denounced the death threats, with spokesperson Russell Dye calling the actions \u2018abhorrent\u2019 and having \u2018no place in a civil discourse.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018No one should receive threats and it needs to stop,\u2019 Dye said. \u2018We have condemned these actions repeatedly.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is important that Republicans stop attacking each other and come together,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>Miller-Meeks released a statement on Wednesday night about the \u2018credible death threats\u2019 she has received after voting for House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, for speaker over Jordan in the second round of voting.<\/p>\n<p>The Iowa Republican said Jordan \u2018was not able to secure enough votes\u2019 to take the gavel after supporting him in the first round and her \u2018initial concerns about threatening tactics of Jim Jordan\u2019s supporters, including from members of Congress, increased despite assurances.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>She also said she voted for Granger \u2018because she has demonstrated great leadership this year by bringing forth, and passing, fiscally responsible, single-subject appropriations bills and is a staunch conservative.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018However, since my vote in support of Chairwoman Granger, I have received credible death threats and a barrage of threatening calls,\u2019 Miller-Meeks said. \u2018The proper authorities have been notified and my office is cooperating fully.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018One thing I cannot stomach, or support is a bully,\u2019 she continued. \u2018Someone who threatens another with bodily harm or tries to suppress differing opinions undermines opportunity for unity and regard for freedom of speech.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That\u2019s why I spoke out forcefully against censorship and suppression during the COVID-19 pandemic,\u2019 Miller-Meeks said. \u2018I did not stand for bullies before I voted for Chairwoman Granger and when I voted for Speaker designee Jordan, and I will not bend to bullies now.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meanwhile, LaLota tweeted a picture of an email he said he received, telling him to go \u2018f\u2014 yourself and die.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018If I see your face, I will whip all the hair out of your f\u2014ing head you f\u2014ing scumbag,\u2019 the person wrote.<\/p>\n<p>LaLota wrote that his \u2018vote card belongs to me and the people of [New York\u2019s] First Congressional District.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I will not succumb to threats,\u2019 LaLota tweeted. \u2018Rather, I\u2019ll support a Speaker candidate who will fund the WTC Health Fund, Nat\u2019l Flood Insurance and SALT, while keeping the [government] open [and] secure border [and] cut spending.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Florida Republican Rep. John Rutherford, who voted against Jordan on Wednesday, pinned the blame for threats against his staff on the GOP speaker nominee.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He is absolutely responsible for it,\u2019 Rutherford said, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. \u2018And look, it doesn\u2019t work \u2014 especially against people like [Scalise] and others.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Nobody likes to have their arm twisted. Talking about individuals\u2019 wives and those sorts of things?\u2019 Rutherford was quoted as saying. \u2018That\u2019s just not acceptable.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, also spoke out against the threats on X, formerly Twitter, writing that House Majority Leader Steve Scalise earned his \u2018vote for Speaker in the last two rounds.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He has repeatedly proven his leadership as our conference\u2019s Majority Leader, and I am honored to support him,\u2019 Simpson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Intimidation and threatening tactics do not \u2014 and will not \u2014 work,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Additionally, some people have reportedly sent Nebraska GOP Rep. Don Bacon\u2019s wife anonymous messages threatening to remove him from his job unless he votes for Jordan.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Some House Republicans have spoken out about the threats against members, with New York Rep. George Santos, who is voting for Jordan, saying he will join his colleagues against the House Judiciary Committee chairman\u2019s speakership bid \u2018in protest\u2019 if the threats continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m for Jim Jordan for speaker but, if the nasty hatred and attacks against some of my colleagues continue I will be joining them in protest,\u2019 Santos tweeted on Thursday. \u2018America first always!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018However attacking good patriots is not the way to get them on your side,\u2019 he wrote. \u2018We need to have dialogue to bring them onboard team Jordan!\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Rep. Carlos Gimenez of Florida, who has consistently voted for former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to return to the gavel, condemned the threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is despicable that my dear friend and colleague [Miller-Meeks], a doctor [and] Army Lt.
