Jim Banks called for House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Kay Granger, R-Texas, to lose her gavel for voting against GOP speaker nominee Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Banks caught up with Fox News Digital Thursday after Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., set the House to recess amid Jordan\u2019s speakership push.<\/p>\n<p>The Indiana congressman said there were \u2018a lot of emotions\u2019 in the GOP conference meeting Thursday and that Republicans \u2018have a duty\u2019 to the American people to elect a House speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Banks also called the ouster of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., \u2018a big mistake\u2019 and that Republican holdouts \u2018need to come to their senses\u2019 and vote for Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Some of them are leaders,\u2019 Banks said of the holdouts. \u2018The chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee voted against Jim Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Why? Because Jim Jordan is a fiscal conservative who understands that we need to save our country by addressing the debt and deficit spending. And she controls the Appropriations Committee. She should lose her gavel for it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Banks said Granger \u2018shouldn\u2019t be the chairwoman of the committee\u2019 if she is not backing the GOP majority\u2019s choice for speaker, adding it\u2019s \u2018really disappointing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But that\u2019s where we are right now,\u2019 Banks said. \u2018So, it\u2019s time to put petty differences aside and elect a Republican speaker of the House, not a Democrat speaker of the House.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Banks said he hopes the steering committee, which handles all House committee assignments, including chair positions, will \u2018take a look at\u2019 removing Granger.<\/p>\n<p>The Indiana Republican noted that the steering committee \u2018isn\u2019t populated until there\u2019s a speaker,\u2019 and he hopes \u2018there will be a large conversation in our conference about those who betrayed the Republican majority.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Granger\u2019s office did not respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s\u00a0requests for a response to Banks\u2019 comments Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>His comments come as Jordan continues his quest for the speaker\u2019s gavel.<\/p>\n<p>The House will reconvene Friday at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan, the Republican nominee for speaker, spent much of the day talking with holdouts following a second failed vote to win the top job in the House.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News Digital\u2019s Elizabeth Elkind contributed reporting.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-meta\">\n<div class=\"author-bio\">\n<p>Houston Keene is a politics writer for Fox News Digital. \u00a0Story tips can be sent to Houston.Keene@Fox.com and on Twitter: @HoustonKeene\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>This post appeared first on FOX NEWS<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FIRST ON FOX: GOP Indiana Rep.
