{"id":10628,"date":"2023-10-25T14:06:40","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T14:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/25\/82-year-old-korean-man-has-heart-attack-after-choking-on-live-octopus-dish\/"},"modified":"2023-10-25T14:06:40","modified_gmt":"2023-10-25T14:06:40","slug":"82-year-old-korean-man-has-heart-attack-after-choking-on-live-octopus-dish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/25\/82-year-old-korean-man-has-heart-attack-after-choking-on-live-octopus-dish\/","title":{"rendered":"82-year-old Korean man has heart attack after choking on \u2018live octopus\u2019 dish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      An 82-year-old man in South Korea had a heart attack after choking on a piece of \u201clive octopus,\u201d or san-nakji, a local delicacy comprised of freshly severed \u2013 and still wriggling \u2013 tentacles.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Fire station authorities in Gwangju, a city near the country\u2019s southern tip, received a report on Monday morning that a piece of san-nakji had become stuck in a man\u2019s throat, according to a fire station official.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      When first responders arrived on site, the man had a cardiac arrest, and they conducted CPR, the official said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The official did not say whether the man survived.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      San-nakji refers to a small octopus that is sliced and served raw, often eaten in South Korea\u2019s coastal areas or seafood markets.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Though the dish\u2019s name translates to \u201clive octopus,\u201d this is slightly misleading \u2013 the octopus is killed before serving, with its tentacles cut into portions.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      However, it is served immediately after slicing, and is so fresh that the tentacles\u2019 nerves are still active \u2013 causing the octopus to appear \u201clive\u201d as it continues moving on the plate.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      San-nakji is often served with sesame oil, sesame seeds, and sometimes ginger, and has a chewy texture.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The dish has also previously made headlines, with local media reporting multiple cases over the years of diners dying after choking or asphyxiating on \u201clive octopus.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      In perhaps the best-known case, dubbed the \u201coctopus murder,\u201d a South Korean man was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 for allegedly killing his girlfriend and claiming it was a san-nakji accident \u2013 before he was acquitted by the Supreme Court in 2013 for insufficient evidence.   <\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on cnn.com<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An 82-year-old man in South Korea had a heart attack after choking on a piece of \u201clive octopus,\u201d or san-nakji, a local delicacy comprised of freshly severed \u2013 and still wriggling \u2013 tentacles.
