The Vatican has accepted\u00a0the resignation of a Polish bishop who stepped down after a sex scandal\u00a0involving clergy from his diocese in the southern Polish city of Sosnowiec. <\/p>\n
According to Poland\u2019s state news agency, the parish has been hit by a string of scandals over the past few years involving priests\u00a0under the administration of Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak. <\/p>\n
In a farewell message on the parish website this week, Kaszak\u00a0thanked the congregation for its \u201ceffort and dedication in building the Church of Sosnowiec,\u201d but did not give a reason for his resignation. <\/p>\n
He asked parishioners for forgiveness for his \u201chuman limitations,\u201d saying \u201cif\u00a0I have offended anyone or neglected something, I am very sorry.\u201d <\/p>\n
In a press release Tuesday, the Polish Apostolic Nunciature said,\u00a0\u201cThe Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak from the service of Bishop of Sosnowiec,\u201d and named\u00a0Archbishop Adrian Galbas of Katowice as his replacement. <\/p>\n
The allegations that precipitated the bishop\u2019s resignation are connected to an incident in September, widely reported in Polish media, in which a priest identified as\u00a0Fr. Tomasza Z allegedly hosted several other priests and a\u00a0male prostitute at his apartment. <\/p>\n
An ambulance was called after the sex worker lost consciousness, though paramedics were initially not allowed inside to attend to the victim until police were called. <\/p>\n
Fr. Tomasza Z has since been dismissed, according to\u00a0PAP. <\/p>\n\n
