The entire population of Gaza is \u201cbeing dehumanized,\u201d the chief of the main UN agency operating there <\/strong>told the UN Security Council Monday, as pressure intensified on the besieged strip with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruling out a ceasefire, saying \u201cthis\u00a0is a time for war.\u201d <\/p>\n

Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) told the Security Council that thousands of children killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in the past three weeks \u201ccannot be collateral damage.\u201d <\/p>\n

Major UN agencies are calling for a humanitarian ceasefire to allow deliveries of aid <\/strong> for <\/strong>more than 2 million civilians trapped with scarce supplies of food, water and medical equipment, and for the safe release of 240 hostages <\/strong>that Israel believes are being held by Hamas, the militant group that controls the enclave. <\/p>\n

\u201cAn immediate humanitarian ceasefire has become a matter of life and death for millions,\u201d Lazzarini said. The director of the UN\u00a0Office\u00a0for the Coordination of\u00a0Humanitarian\u00a0Affairs (OCHA), Lisa Doughten, told the Security Council that the \u201cscale of the horror\u201d being experienced by Gazans is \u201chard to convey.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe simply do not have enough essential supplies to provide for the survival of internally displaced people at this scale,\u201d\u00a0Doughten\u00a0said. <\/p>\n

However, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu made clear on Monday that Israel would not agree to a ceasefire, as it responds with unrelenting force to Hamas\u2019 October 7 terror attacks, which killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and saw hundreds taken hostage. <\/p>\n

Drawing parallels to the United States\u2019 position after Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the September 11\u00a0attacks in 2001, Netanyahu said that while the Bible says there is a time for peace, \u201cthis\u00a0is a time for war.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cCalls for a ceasefire or calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorists, surrender to barbarism, that will not happen,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

IDF offensive intensifying<\/h2>\n

The IDF said it attacked hundreds of Hamas targets overnight. IDF spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari\u00a0said Tuesday that \u201cin combined and coordinated attacks by the ground and air forces, terrorists were eliminated.\u201d <\/p>\n

Videos released by the IDF on Tuesday morning show Israeli soldiers on the ground in Gaza, progressing on foot and in tanks through rural areas as well as in what appears to be a significantly war-damaged urban district. <\/p>\n

IDF forces struck \u201capproximately 300 targets\u201d over the past day, including military compounds inside underground tunnels it said belonged to Hamas. <\/p>\n

Despite the intensified IDF ground operation, Hamas continued to fire rockets from Gaza. Alarms indicating incoming fire were activated in a number of areas around the Gaza perimeter overnight and early Tuesday. <\/p>\n

The Israeli military said Monday its troops killed\u00a0four prominent Hamas operatives\u00a0as part of its\u00a0expanded ground operations\u00a0in Gaza. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a Hamas spokesperson said Israel was not successful in entering Gaza \u201cexcept in some limited areas\u201d and described the humanitarian situation in the enclave as \u201cdisastrous.\u201d <\/p>\n

The reporter, who was at the hospital on Tuesday morning, counted 44 bodies in the morgue tent being prepared for burial. <\/p>\n

The other casualties were killed in airstrikes Monday afternoon on two homes and a wedding hall sheltering residents displaced from northern Gaza, according to Al Dikran. <\/p>\n

Dozens of aid workers, journalists killed<\/h2>\n

Israel\u2019s bombardment of Gaza has killed at least\u00a08,260 people, mostly civilians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, which draws the information from the Hamas-controlled enclave. More than 70% those killed are from vulnerable populations, including children, women and elderly individuals, the ministry said Monday. <\/p>\n

Among the dead are 64 UN aid workers, the highest number of UN aid workers killed in a conflict anywhere in the world in such a short period of time, according to UNRWA\u2019s Lazzarini. <\/p>\n

The most recent death was a man called Samir who was killed alongside his wife and eight children, Lazzarini told the UN Security Council. <\/p>\n

\u201cThose who are alive, have, for the most part, lost relatives, friends, neighbors and are displaced like the majority of Gazans,\u201d he said, adding that despite the threat to their lives, they continue to \u201cwork tirelessly.\u201d <\/p>\n

The conflict has also been the \u201cdeadliest period\u201d for journalists covering Israel and Gaza since records began in 1992, according to the Committee to Protect\u00a0Journalists\u00a0(CPJ). <\/p>\n

At least 31\u00a0journalists\u00a0have been killed since October 7, including 26 Palestinians, four Israelis, and one Lebanese, the CPJ said, adding that it is investigating \u201cnumerous unconfirmed reports\u201d of missing\u00a0journalists\u00a0and others who may been killed, detained, injured, or threatened. <\/p>\n

Speaking before the UN Security Council Monday, the\u00a0Palestinian\u00a0Authority\u2019s Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki said, \u201c2.3 million\u00a0Palestinians in Gaza face death every day and every night\u201d and pleaded with the council to \u201csave them.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cLook at them as human beings. You cannot look only at one side and ignore this tragic humanity completely,\u201d Al-Maliki said. <\/p>\n

Hospitals bear the brunt<\/h2>\n

Numerous hospitals in Gaza have borne the brunt of airstrikes and shelling, according to aid groups and health workers. <\/p>\n

In a social media post early Tuesday morning, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said the Tal Al Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City, in which\u00a0the\u00a0Al-Quds\u00a0hospital\u00a0is located, was under heavy \u201cartillery and airstrikes.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe building is trembling,\u201d and those sheltering inside the\u00a0hospital\u00a0are \u201cexperiencing fear and panic,\u201d the PRCS said. <\/p>\n

The organization said over the weekend that Israeli airstrikes have \u201ccaused extensive damage to hospital departments and exposed residents and patients to suffocation\u201d at Al-Quds and accused Israel of \u201cdeliberately\u201d launching airstrikes \u201cdirectly next to\u201d the facility in order to force an evacuation of the hospital, the second-largest in Gaza City. <\/p>\n

The facility is treating hundreds of patients, while some 12,000 internally displaced civilians are also sheltering there, the agency said. <\/p>\n

New hostage video<\/h2>\n

Hamas on Monday released a short video showing three women who are\u00a0believed to be captives\u00a0held by the Palestinian militant group since its\u00a0October 7\u00a0attack. <\/p>\n

The women are seated in plastic chairs facing the camera, while one addresses Netanyahu directly with increasing fury, demanding Israeli leaders to \u201cfree us all.\u201d <\/p>\n

IDF spokesperson Hagari said Hamas was engaging in \u201cmind games\u201d by releasing the footage of the women. <\/p>\n

Talks involving the US, Israel, Qatar, Egypt and Hamas are underway to get a group of hostages\u00a0out of Gaza, a task that sources say has been further complicated\u00a0by\u00a0Israel\u2019s expansion of its ground operations. <\/p>\n

One hostage \u2013 a female Israeli soldier \u2013 was rescued Monday <\/strong>during ground operations in Gaza, the IDF said. <\/p>\n

\u201cBased on intelligence\u201d the Israeli special forces went into northern Gaza knowing her whereabouts and rescued her, Conricus said, adding that she is \u201cwell mentally and physically,\u201d and reunited with her family. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Shani Louk, a 23-year-old German-Israeli woman who was abducted from the Nova music festival and taken to Gaza has been declared dead, Israel\u2019s Foreign Ministry said Monday. <\/p>\n
