{"id":11409,"date":"2023-11-10T01:50:36","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T01:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/10\/jailed-nobel-peace-prize-winner-narges-mohammadi-ends-hunger-strike\/"},"modified":"2023-11-10T01:50:36","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T01:50:36","slug":"jailed-nobel-peace-prize-winner-narges-mohammadi-ends-hunger-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/10\/jailed-nobel-peace-prize-winner-narges-mohammadi-ends-hunger-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Jailed Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi ends hunger strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The imprisoned Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has ended her hunger strike after three days, according to a statement from her media team on Thursday.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">       She had been striking over what she said was the jail\u2019s refusal to provide her with medical treatment.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Mohammadi ended the action\u00a0on Wednesday after being\u00a0allowed\u00a0to leave Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison to visit a hospital\u00a0for\u00a0medical care without wearing the mandatory hijab, the statement said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Mohammadi\u00a0said in the statement that she\u00a0had experienced the most secure transfer in all\u00a0the\u00a0years of her imprisonment.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      \u201cBefore my arrival at the hospital, security forces were stationed at the hospital entrance, parking lot, elevator, and the corridor leading to the doctor\u2019s office, all under their control,\u201d she said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      \u201cI was surrounded by security forces everywhere. I was confined in a small room whose doors were closed and controlled by security personnel, and even my blood tests were conducted there.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The statement continued: \u201cI was not allowed to speak with my lawyer. My family members, who I didn\u2019t even get to see, were identified and threatened with detention based on the prosecutor\u2019s order.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Mohammadi\u2019s treatment continues to spark widespread condemnation. The Norwegian Nobel Committee called the requirement that female inmates wear the hijab for medical treatment \u201cinhumane.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Human rights watchdog Amnesty International accused the Iranian government of \u201ccallously toying\u201d with Mohammadi\u2019s life\u00a0in a statement\u00a0on\u00a0X, the platform formerly known as\u00a0Twitter, on Wednesday.  <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader\">    Decades in jail<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The 51-year-old rights activist was\u00a0awarded the Nobel\u00a0on October 6 for \u201cher fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.\u201d That battle has come at a huge personal cost \u2013 she\u2019s been sentenced to more than 30 years in jail, and has been banned from seeing her husband and children.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Mohammadi has spent most of the past two decades in prison and is currently serving a sentence of 10 years and nine months, accused of actions against national security and propaganda against the state.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      In August she was sentenced to an additional year in jail for her continued activism behind bars after she gave a media interview and a statement about sexual assaults in prison, which she says have \u201csignificantly increased\u201d since protests swept Iran last year, leading her to describe the abuse as now \u201csystematic.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on cnn.com<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The imprisoned Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has ended her hunger strike after three days, according to a statement from her media team on Thursday.
