FIRST ON FOX: <\/strong>A trio of former professional athletes are throwing their support behind independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take the White House.<\/p>\n

NBA legend and 1992 \u2018Dream Team\u2019 Olympian John Stockton, Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame member Ken Ruettegers and three-time North American Enduro mountain biking champion Kyle Warner are all endorsing Kennedy for president.<\/p>\n

The athletes said they like the cut of Kennedy\u2019s jib \u2014 all three pointed to what they say are the independent candidate\u2019s genuineness, honesty and openness to conversations about policies as reasons they support him.<\/p>\n

Stockton said he believes Kennedy \u2018has been put on this planet for just this moment in time\u2019 and that there\u2019s \u2018a real need for him and his leadership.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018There\u2019s a need for very smart people in these positions that have integrity that [is] off the charts, that have the stamina and strength to be able to speak and be a leader 24\/7, not just on occasion or on blips,\u2019 Stockton said.<\/p>\n

\u2018And, maybe more than anything, a person that can un-divide this country,\u2019 the NBA legend continued. \u2018I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever been this divided.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018You look around, and you see all the different things that are pulling us apart,\u2019 he said. \u2018Finally, we have, I think, the right man there available again. What an opportunity to bring us back together.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ruettgers said he has met Kennedy \u2018a couple times\u2019 and that the independent presidential candidate\u2019s \u2018level of commitment to honesty\u2019 that he will \u2018bring to our federal government, to the Oval Office, to the leadership position\u2019 is part of why he\u2019s supporting Kennedy for president.<\/p>\n

\u2018I love the fact that he loves the Constitution and the Bill of Rights,\u2019 the Packers Hall of Fame member said. \u2018Man, that seems to have been eroded in our culture over the last couple decades.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018And I love other things. He\u2019s \u2026 for free-market capitalism, but he\u2019s not for crony capitalism,\u2019 he continued. \u2018He\u2019s also for the average American, the middle class, the people who are down and out and cannot provide for themselves.\u2019<\/p>\n

Warner \u2014 who won the 2014, 2015 and 2016 North American Enduro Championships \u2014 said that he believes there\u2019s \u2018a level of elitism\u2019 currently in American politics, including with President Biden and former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u2018Whereas I think that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. \u2026 does a great job of being a populist and \u2026 understanding the plight of the common man,\u2019 Warner said. \u2018I have had friends that have been in these big meetings at Facebook, at these censorship meetings with Robert, and they\u2019re just normal people, everyday normal people, and he cares about them. He wants them to succeed.\u2019<\/p>\n

Warner, who is one of the independent candidate\u2019s surrogates, said Kennedy \u2018being down-to-earth and relatable is huge and there isn\u2019t that level of elitism.\u2019<\/p>\n

The mountain biking champion also said he is a lifelong Democrat who grew up with a mother who \u2018was on welfare.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We grew up on food stamps and the only reason we weren\u2019t homeless was because of the government,\u2019 Warner said. \u2018With that in mind, I was always a Democrat at my core.\u2019<\/p>\n

Warner blasted the Democratic National Committee\u2019s (DNC) choice to not host a primary debate as \u2018undemocratic\u2019 and that he was happy to see Kennedy run as an independent, despite the \u2018tough road\u2019 that comes with it.<\/p>\n

\u2018But right now when you see him polling in the 20th percentile already, and I don\u2019t think there\u2019s even been that massive debate that\u2019s happened,\u2019 Warner said. \u2018If he can get onstage with Biden [and] Trump \u2026 I think it will really do a lot for him, and I really do think he has a chance of winning this thing.\u2019<\/p>\n

Stockton said he hasn\u2019t \u2018necessarily been a part of a party, one way or another\u2019 and has carefully scrutinized candidates and their level of belief in their platforms.<\/p>\n

\u2018That\u2019s a hard journey because it\u2019s hard to get the truth,\u2019 he said. \u2018And \u2026 one thing I can count on with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the truth.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019ll look you right in the eye. He\u2019ll tell you what he thinks. If you guys disagree, he\u2019s willing to discuss it. His mind isn\u2019t set,\u2019 Stockton said. \u2018He\u2019s not dialed into one political way of thinking, and if you can present a decent argument, he wants to hear it and perhaps his mind changes.\u2019<\/p>\n

Stockton, who has met the independent presidential candidate, said he thinks Kennedy\u2019s openness is a \u2018good thing\u2019 over a candidate who falls behind their party\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n

Ruettgers said he is a lifelong Republican who cast his first vote for President Ronald Reagan and that America is in \u2018deeper trouble\u2019 if the country can\u2019t get out of the two-party mindset.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s time to make that move and that jump,\u2019 Ruettgers said. \u2018So, if not now, when? And if not \u2026 Robert F. Kennedy Jr., then who?\u2019<\/p>\n

In addition to Ruettgers, Stockton and Warner, Kennedy has secured the endorsements of several other athletes, including New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and surfing legend Kelly Slater.<\/p>\n

Kennedy has been gaining ground as he mounts his independent challenge to Biden, with a recent poll showing him outperforming both the current and former presidents among young Americans in swing states.<\/p>\n\n
