The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) launched attacks against Sen. Krysten Sinema, I-Ariz., and Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Monday in a new ad.<\/p>\n
The 30-second ad labeled Gallego as \u2018rotten Ruben Gallego\u2019 and said he had \u2018abandoned his wife when she was nearly nine months pregnant, then married a D.C. lobbyist.\u2019<\/p>\n
Then, it slammed Sinema \u2013\u00a0a former Democrat now registered as an Independent \u2013\u00a0claiming she \u2018voted with President Biden\u2019s agenda 100% of the time,\u2019 including the administration\u2019s progressive energy initiatives and the COVID-era American Rescue Plan.<\/p>\n
\u2018Deadbeat Dad, or liberal Democrat? Arizonans deserve a better choice,\u2019 the ad, titled, \u2018A Choice,\u2019 concluded.<\/p>\n
In a statement to Fox News Digital, NRSC spokesperson Mike Berg said, \u2018Divorcing your wife when she is nearly nine months pregnant is a low-life move that really speaks to Ruben Gallego\u2019s character.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gallego divorced his wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, in 2016. Politico reported a source close to Gallego said he and his ex currently have joint custody of their 6-year-old son.<\/p>\n
In a 2016 post, Gallego and his wife both announced the divorce on their Facebook pages.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018It is painful when any marriage ends, and it is not something that I ever wanted or expected,\u2019 Kate wrote. Gallego shared her post and added \u2018Kate and I hope to keep this a private matter and appreciate your respect for our privacy.\u2019<\/p>\n
Berg said the committee plans to run more ads \u2018exposing the truth\u2019 about Gallego \u2013\u00a0who could likely become the Democratic nominee in the race \u2013\u00a0until Election Day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The ad comes as an internal NRSC polling showed Sinema currently drawing support from more Republican voters than Democrat voters, according to a source familiar with NRSC strategy.<\/p>\n
Sinema has not announced whether she will run for re-election yet, but Republican strategists are on the offense.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018National Democrats are fighting a lose-lose civil war over who they\u2019ll make their standard bearer: Rotten Ruben Gallego or liberal rubber stamp Kyrsten Sinema,\u2019 NRSC spokesman Tate Mitchell said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Fox News Digital has reached out to Gallego and Sinema for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a fundraising email, Gallego\u2019s campaign called the ad \u2018baseless\u2019 and a \u2018deeply personal attack.\u2019<\/p>\n
