FIRST ON FOX: <\/strong>A legal group called on the Michigan bar to investigate and sanction \u2018Squad\u2019 Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., over her antisemitic rhetoric.<\/p>\n

The nonpartisan Coolidge Reagan Foundation is calling on the State Bar of Michigan to probe Tlaib, who is an active attorney in Michigan, over her comments.<\/p>\n

Dan Backer, the foundation\u2019s counsel, told Fox News Digital that he believes people who spread \u2018vile, antisemitic lies to foster hatred towards a people\u2019 should be held accountable.<\/p>\n

Backer said Tlaib \u2018clearly violated\u2019 the Michigan bar\u2019s ethics code with her rhetoric and that he was initially looking into \u2018some of those snot-nosed kids\u2019 out of Harvard and Columbia law schools.<\/p>\n

\u2018I was reading \u2026 what she was saying, and I was like, \u2018You know, this is really outrageous. How is this OK?\u2019\u2019 Backer said. \u2018And then I remember, \u2018Well, she\u2019s in Michigan, I wonder if she\u2019s a lawyer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018And I looked it up, and she was,\u2019 Backer continued. \u2018And so we talked about it internally. We realized that people need to be held accountable.\u2019<\/p>\n

Backer said the \u2018fundamental problem\u2019 that America is seeing right now is that \u2018people do horrible s\u2014 and they\u2019re never held accountable for it.\u2019<\/p>\n

He also said that \u2018the sooner you start putting cameras on people\u2019s faces, they stop.\u2019<\/p>\n

Backer noted the number of calls to the nonprofit Accuracy in Media \u2014 of which Backer is on the board \u2014 from Harvard students asking to have their name taken down from the organization\u2019s \u2018so-called doxxing truck\u2019 for signing a letter in support of Hamas.<\/p>\n

\u2018When people see accountability for their bad actions, you get less bad actors,\u2019 Backer said. \u2018I think that\u2019s really essential, and probably this generation of whiny, little s\u2014s has not really experienced yet.\u2019<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, the Coolidge Reagan Foundation\u2019s \u2018request arises from Attorney Tlaib\u2019s false, discriminatory, and anti-Semitic comments regarding the horrific massacre and other crimes the international terrorist group Hamas ruthlessly unleashed against innocent Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023, including kidnapping, rape, beheading children, burning people alive, and murdering a baby by placing him in an oven.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018In response to these atrocities, Attorney Tlaib made several public statements evincing deeply discriminatory, antisemitic views that call into question her character and fitness to practice law,\u2019 the complaint reads.<\/p>\n

The complaint references Tlaib\u2019s censure by the House of Representatives this month \u2018for her repeated reprehensible statements\u2019 and that Tlaib\u2019s \u2018irresponsible anti-Semitic lies and discriminatory statements \u2014 which include embracing a call for the violent destruction of Israel and concomitant genocide of Israelis, as well as reckless false accusations of genocide against President Joe Biden and the government of Israel \u2014 violate the Michigan Court Rules and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018The State Bar of Michigan should initiate an investigation and impose appropriate sanctions against an attorney who spreads anti-Semitic propaganda and lies in support of an officially designated Foreign Terrorist Organization,\u2019 it continues.<\/p>\n

Tlaib\u2019s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Tlaib has faced intense criticism over her anti-Israel and antisemitic remarks, including her promotion of the genocidal call against Jews \u2018from the river to the sea.\u2019<\/p>\n

Tlaib posted to social media about the phrase, saying it was about \u2018peaceful coexistence.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate. My work and advocacy is always centered in justice and dignity for all people no matter faith or ethnicity,\u2019 she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n

However, even the Biden White House says the phrase could be considered \u2018antisemitic.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fox Business correspondent Hillary Vaughn quizzed the Palestinian-American lawmaker, asking her if she regrets using the phrase.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Congresswoman, do you regret using the phrase \u2018from the river to the sea\u2019? It\u2019s used by terrorists to call for the genocide of the Jewish people. Do you regret using it?\u2019 Vaughn said.<\/p>\n

Tlaib did not respond.<\/p>\n
