Rashida Tlaib, D-MI., instead. The candidate \u2014 Hill Harper \u2014 reportedly declined the offer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Linden Nelsen, the businessman and political donor, pitched the offer last month, according to Karthik Ganapathy, a spokesperson for Harper\u2019s campaign, the New York Times reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The conversation between Harper and Nelson was \u2018respectful on both sides,\u2019 according to Ganapathy. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Harper and Tlaib could not be reached for comment. But in a post on X \u2014 formerly known as Twitter \u2014 on Wednesday, Harper wrote, \u2018I will not be bought, or bossed, or bullied.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For me, this isn\u2019t about one person or one phone call. It\u2019s about a broken political and campaign finance system that\u2019s tilted towards the wealthy and powerful. I\u2019m running for the U.S. Senate because I believe the wealthy and powerful have too much representation in Washington. I\u2019m running to be a voice for the people. I will not be bought, or bossed, or bullied,\u2019 he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Politico first reported on the allegations of the offer and reached Nelson briefly on Wednesday, but the call quickly concluded, and Nelson would not respond to repeated requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Harper, an actor and entrepreneur, faces an uphill battle to succeed Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. But he has positioned himself as a progressive option and joined other Democratic calls for a ceasefire earlier this month.
