Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and the White House traded barbs this week over the Biden administration\u2019s response to the Hamas attacks in Israel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">It started after Cruz said in a Fox News interview that the Biden administration had been sympathetic to calls for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>Former U.S. State Department Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller told FactCheck.org Cruz was \u2018wrong\u2019 to make the claims and that the administration had been \u2018nothing other than completely supportive\u2019 of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy post Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter, Cruz said the fact check \u2018admits I was right that Biden immediately called on Israel not to retaliate against Hamas, because they have to, because it\u2019s true.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018But, so they can defend Biden, they quote \u2018experts\u2019 anyway saying he\u2019s been 100% supportive of Israel,\u2019 he wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Washington DC experts say that Biden has been 100% supportive of Israel. These are the people who have been in charge of Middle East diplomacy for decades \u2014 which also explains how we got to a place where Iranian terrorists were able to launch the worst one day mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust,\u2019 the post continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a statement to Fox News Digital in response to Cruz\u2019s post, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said, \u2018Obviously, Senator Cruz hasn\u2019t asked anyone in Israel about this,\u2019 and referenced a link to a New York Times article, \u2018Israeli Billboards Thanking the U.S. Have a New Face on Them: Biden\u2019s.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Times article said Biden is \u2018suddenly finding warm embraces\u2019 in Israel after former President Donald Trump\u2019s politics \u2018drove a wedge between the Democratic Party and the Jews who have long called it their political home.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Hamas attacks \u2014 and the Biden administration\u2019s response \u2014\u00a0have so far not only united a fractured Israeli society but also buried animosities between the world\u2019s two largest Jewish communities, in Israel and the United States,\u2019 the article continued.<\/p>\n<p>The article didn\u2019t mention the Biden administration\u2019s initial social media responses to the Oct. 7 attacks condemned by conservatives, including Cruz.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz\u2019s comments referenced an Oct. 7 post on X in which the U.S. Office of Palestinian Affairs called for \u2018all sides to refrain from violence and retaliatory attacks,\u2019 which was quickly deleted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 8, the day Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a phone call with the Turkish foreign minister, Blinken posted on X, urging, \u2018T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s advocacy for a cease-fire and the release of all hostages held by Hamas immediately.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That post was also deleted, according to the FactCheck.org website.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Even that is a lie,\u2019 Cruz continued on X. \u2018In reality, the Biden administration immediately called on Israel not to retaliate on Oct 7, deleted the tweet, supported a ceasefire again the next day, then deleted that tweet too.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, the Biden administration has since publicly rejected a cease-fire. On Oct. 10, FactCheck.org\u00a0reported that Biden said in a speech: \u2018So, in this moment, we must be crystal clear,\u2019 he said. \u2018We stand with Israel. We stand with Israel. And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself and respond to this attack.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>But, earlier this month, State Department staffers wrote a scathing internal memo urging the Biden administration to change its public stance toward Israel and support a cease-fire, Politico reported.<\/p>\n<p>The leaked memo was submitted to the department\u2019s Dissent Channel, where employees are invited to express policy disagreements, the outlet said. It is the latest incident showing internal strife within the department over the U.S. support for its closest ally in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The message reportedly demands the U.S. support a cease-fire and be willing to publicly criticize \u2018Israeli military tactics and treatments of Palestinians,\u2019 the outlet reported. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Politico reported that two mid-level staffers wrote this particular memo, but there were several other dissent memos over the Israel-Hamas war being shared within the department.
