Ahead of Thursday\u2019s highly-anticipated debate between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody will hold a press conference earlier in the afternoon to hear from California \u2018refugees\u2019 who fled the Golden State for Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Among those featured will be a Vietnam veteran named Jay Berman, who lived in Southern California for 40 years before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, because of high crime and vagrancy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Berman is now, according to DeSantis\u2019 office, enjoying Florida\u2019s low cost of living\u00a0and can now afford to semi-retire without worrying about finding new clients.<\/p>\n
Another featured speaker will be Julie\u00a0Gebhards,\u00a0who home schools her children in\u00a0Lithia, Florida. She\u00a0is said to have left California after becoming disillusioned with the state\u2019s education curriculum, particularly \u2018pornographic material\u2019 in schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Former New York police officer Steve Grossi will also speak at the press conference. Grossi moved to California to start over, but instead was met with homelessness and worried about his kids\u2019 safety.\u00a0He returned east and resides in Tallahassee, Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The press conference will also feature Noah and Kelsey Howard, who moved to Milton, Florida, because of DeSantis\u2019 law enforcement recruitment program. The couple, who recently welcomed a newborn, left California because of the state\u2019s high cost of living.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Another couple, Ross and Jean Coulombe,\u00a0moved to Bagdad, Florida, from California after the Ross\u2019 business was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic and Newsom\u2019s Draconian measures that followed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
DeSantis, who is running for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, and Newsom \u2014 who Republican critics charge is running a shadow campaign for the White House, even though he repeatedly stomps on such speculation as \u2018ridiculous\u2019 \u2014 will face off Thursday in a debate moderated by Fox News\u2019 primetime opinion host Sean Hannity.<\/p>\n
