{"id":14706,"date":"2024-01-27T00:46:14","date_gmt":"2024-01-27T00:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/27\/oil-tanker-on-fire-in-gulf-of-aden-after-houthi-missile-attack\/"},"modified":"2024-01-27T00:46:14","modified_gmt":"2024-01-27T00:46:14","slug":"oil-tanker-on-fire-in-gulf-of-aden-after-houthi-missile-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/27\/oil-tanker-on-fire-in-gulf-of-aden-after-houthi-missile-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Oil tanker on fire in\u00a0Gulf\u00a0of Aden after Houthi missile\u00a0attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      An oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden is on fire after Yemen\u2019s Houthi militants fired missiles at the tanker on Friday amid ongoing attacks on the key shipping route.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The\u00a0Marlin Luanda oil tanker was struck by a missile, the commodities group Trafigura, which is operating the vessel, said on Friday.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      In a statement, Trafigura said the vessel \u201cwas struck by a missile in the Gulf of Aden after transiting the Red Sea,\u201d adding that \u201cfirefighting equipment on board is being deployed to suppress and control the fire caused in one cargo tank on the starboard side.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The Iran-backed militants claimed responsibility for the attack, saying in a\u00a0statement\u00a0they fired missiles toward the tanker in response to the \u201cAmerican-British aggression against our country [Yemen]\u201d and in support of the Palestinian people.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Trafigura, which has offices in Britain, said it is monitoring the situation and that military ships in the region are \u201cunderway to provide assistance.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The British government has yet to comment on the attack.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      Earlier on Friday, US Central Command said the Houthis also fired an anti-ship ballistic missile towards a US destroyer in the Gulf of Aden.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The US\u00a0and UK\u00a0have been carrying out strikes against\u00a0Houthi targets in Yemen after Biden administration and its allies warned that the group would bear the consequences of its attacks in the international shipping lane.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The Houthis have said that they won\u2019t stop their attacks until the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza comes to an end.\u00a0Houthi leader Abdul Malek al-Houthi said in a speech on Thursday that it is \u201ca great honor and blessing to be confronting America directly.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      The attacks have forced some of the world\u2019s biggest shipping and oil companies to suspend transit through one of the world\u2019s\u00a0most important maritime trade routes.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">      <em>This is a developing story and will be updated.<\/em>  <\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on cnn.com<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden is on fire after Yemen\u2019s Houthi militants fired missiles at the tanker on Friday amid ongoing attacks on the key shipping route.
