{"id":15034,"date":"2024-02-03T00:46:33","date_gmt":"2024-02-03T00:46:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/03\/top-un-court-says-ukraine-case-over-russias-invasion-can-go-ahead\/"},"modified":"2024-02-03T00:46:33","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T00:46:33","slug":"top-un-court-says-ukraine-case-over-russias-invasion-can-go-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/03\/top-un-court-says-ukraine-case-over-russias-invasion-can-go-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"Top UN court says Ukraine case over Russia\u2019s invasion can go ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The United Nations\u2019 top court on Friday said that it will move forward with a case brought by Ukraine over Russia\u2019s justification of its February 2022 invasion.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            Kyiv had asked the court to declare it did not commit genocide in eastern Ukraine \u2013 a claim made by Russia as a pretext for launching its attack.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            Ukraine filed the the case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) just days after Russia launched its invasion on February 24, 2022, citing Moscow\u2019s invocation of the Genocide Convention to justify its assault.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            Russia has objected to the proceedings and said it is legally flawed. During hearings in September last year, lawyers representing Moscow urged judges to throw out the entire case.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            Ukraine is asking the court to rule \u201cthat there is no credible evidence that Ukraine is responsible for committing genocide in violation of the Genocide Convention in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            However, the court said it did not have the jurisdiction to rule on all submissions put forward by Ukraine, including the claim Russia\u2019s invasion itself violated the Genocide Convention and that Russia\u2019s recognition os separatist territories in eastern Ukraine also breached the convention.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The ICJ\u2019s decisions are binding but it has no power to enforce its rulings.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            This is a developing story and will be updated.    <\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on cnn.com<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations\u2019 top court on Friday said that it will move forward with a case brought by Ukraine over Russia\u2019s justification of its February 2022 invasion.
