Demands for answers are mounting over the fate of 6-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab,\u00a0who became trapped in a car with her dead relatives after it came under Israeli fire in Gaza more than a week ago. <\/p>\n

Mystery also surrounds the whereabouts of two ambulance staff from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), who were dispatched to find her on January 29. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to know what has happened to Hind and the PRCS ambulance team,\u201d the PRCS said in their latest statement on X early Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo many wonderful things can happen in a week, but for those waiting for news or for information a week is anguish. Each moment is marked by worry and sadness.\u201d <\/p>\n

Hind was traveling in a car with her uncle, his wife and their four children, fleeing fighting in northern Gaza, when they came under Israeli fire, according to the PRCS. <\/p>\n

Hind\u2019s cousin, 15-year-old Layan Hamadeh, made a harrowing call for help to emergency services that was recorded by the PRCS and shared on social media. <\/p>\n

In the clip, the teenager can be heard speaking to a paramedic, crying for help and describing a tank close by. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey are shooting at us. The tank is right next to me. We\u2019re in the car, the tank is right next to us,\u201d Layan screams, amid intense gunfire in the background. <\/p>\n

Layan then goes quiet, and the rounds of fire stop. <\/p>\n

The paramedic\u00a0on the phone\u00a0tries to speak to her,\u00a0repeatedly saying, \u201cHello? Hello?\u201d\u00a0but there is no response. <\/p>\n

The PRCS believe that\u00a0the\u00a0six\u00a0other\u00a0people in the car with\u00a0Hind, including Layan, were killed when the car was shot at. <\/p>\n

Alone, terrified and trapped in the car with the bodies of her relatives around her, Hind made a desperate call for help. <\/p>\n

\u201cCome take me. Will you come and take me? I\u2019m so scared, please come!\u201d Hind can be heard saying in a recording of the call to responders, released by the PRCS. <\/p>\n

PRCS said its responders stayed on the phone with Hind for more than three hours as they scrambled to dispatch an ambulance team \u2013 paramedics Yousef Zieno and Ahmed Almadhoun \u2013 to find her. <\/p>\n

At the time, the group said that ambulances had been unable to reach the area as the Israeli military considered it a closed military zone and was targeting anyone attempting to move in the vicinity. <\/p>\n

Rana Al-Faqueh, a PRCS response coordinator who stayed on the call with the girl, said Hind asked for the time because it was getting dark. \u201cI\u2019m afraid of the dark,\u201d she said, according to Al-Faqueh. <\/p>\n

\u201cIs there gunfire around you?\u201d she asked. \u201cYes. Come get me,\u201d replied Hind. <\/p>\n

In a statement, the PRCS said their rescue team arrived in the area where the young girl was trapped in the car, close to a Fares gas station, at\u00a06 p.m. local time. <\/p>\n

They then lost contact with the team and with Hind. It\u2019s unclear whether the team managed to reach the little girl. <\/p>\n

They have not been heard from in eight days. <\/p>\n

Health Ministry holds Israel responsible<\/h2>\n

On Saturday, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates (PMOFA) said it holds the Israeli government \u201cfully and directly responsible\u201d for the lives of\u00a0Hind, and the two paramedics, \u00a0Zieno and Almadhoun, who went to rescue her. <\/p>\n

\u201cTheir fate remains unknown,\u201d the foreign ministry said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe troops were assisted by tank fire under the direction of field observers and infantry soldiers. In addition, the troops located large quantities of weapons in the area,\u201d the IDF said last Monday. <\/p>\n

The PRCS has stepped up its appeal for answers, issuing more than two dozen statements and posts on social media site X demanding to know what happened to them. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is Hind? Where are Yousef and Ahmed? Are they still alive? We want to know their fate,\u201d the humanitarian group said on Monday. <\/p>\n

The PRCS said the case was \u201crepresentative of all the suffering and brutality of the past few months,\u201d where Israel\u2019s intense bombing campaign of Gaza has killed 27,478 people, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, and triggered a catastrophic humanitarian crisis throughout the Palestinian territory, forcing close to two million people from their homes. <\/p>\n

The lack of information about the missing paramedics and little girl was \u201creally affecting the mental health of the PRCS staff and volunteers,\u201d the group said. <\/p>\n

Hind\u2019s mother waits for answers outside hospital<\/h2>\n

No one is more desperate for answers than Hind\u2019s distraught mother, who had been waiting outside a Gaza hospital hoping her daughter would arrive \u201cat any minute.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cShe is a little girl, her only dream is to be a doctor and treat people.\u201d <\/p>\n

The girl\u2019s grandmother,\u00a0Hind\u00a0Hamada, said she was \u201chopeful\u201d that her granddaughter would be returned \u201cwithout delay.\u201d <\/p>\n

She said Hind had called them from the car saying, \u201cCome and get me, I want to go home, and I want my family.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to take\u00a0Hind\u00a0to a hospital to treat her because she was injured,\u201d the grandmother said. <\/p>\n

Although the family hope that the PRCS rescue crew are taking \u201ccare of her\u201d daughter, they couldn\u2019t say so with any certainty. <\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time I hear the sound of any strike, any shell, or a bullet my heart hurts because I think of this bullet being so close to my daughter. Any hit, I feel it\u2019s coming to my daughter.\u201d <\/p>\n\n
