{"id":15298,"date":"2024-02-09T00:46:15","date_gmt":"2024-02-09T00:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/09\/trump-says-hes-a-believer-in-the-supreme-court-after-oral-arguments-in-colorado-ballot-case\/"},"modified":"2024-02-09T00:46:15","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T00:46:15","slug":"trump-says-hes-a-believer-in-the-supreme-court-after-oral-arguments-in-colorado-ballot-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/09\/trump-says-hes-a-believer-in-the-supreme-court-after-oral-arguments-in-colorado-ballot-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump says he\u2019s a \u2018believer\u2019 in the Supreme Court after oral arguments in Colorado ballot case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Former President Trump said he is a \u2018believer\u2019 in the United States and a \u2018believer\u2019 in the Supreme Court after it heard arguments in Colorado\u2019s effort to remove him from the 2024 ballot in the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Trump told reporters Thursday that it would be \u2018tough\u2019 to rule against him based on his poll numbers, but maintained that he is \u2018leaving it up to\u2019 the high court.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Supreme Court appeared skeptical of Colorado\u2019s argument that Trump should be removed from the state ballot for \u2018insurrection\u2019 related to the 2020 election and the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots.<\/p>\n<p>The court is considering for the first time the meaning and reach of Section 3 of the Constitution\u2019s 14th Amendment, which bars former officeholders who \u2018engaged in insurrection\u2019 from holding public office again.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has never been charged with inciting insurrection.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I just finished watching the Supreme Court\u2026 It\u2019s unfortunate that we have to go through a thing like that,\u2019 Trump said during a news conference at Mar-a-Lago after oral arguments concluded. \u2018I consider it to be more election interference by the Democrats \u2013 that\u2019s what they\u2019re doing.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump added that \u2018the good news is, we\u2019re leading virtually in every poll.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The former president and 2024 Republican frontrunner said he felt the Supreme Court\u2019s proceeding Thursday was \u2018a very beautiful process.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I hope that democracy in this country will continue, because right now we have a very, very tough situation,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018And with all of the radical left ideas with the weaponization of politics, they weaponized it like it\u2019s never been weaponized before.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Trump said that \u2018every single\u2019 case against him is \u2018a phony hoax.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s a disgrace that this country, that they work together with the Justice Department and the White House and not supposed to do that,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018Every one of these cases you see comes out of the White House.\u00a0It comes out of Biden. It\u2019s election interference, and it\u2019s really very sad.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump said he feels his defense at the Supreme Court was \u2018a very good one.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think it was well received. I hope it was well received,\u2019 he said. \u2018You have millions of people that are out there wanting to vote, and they happen to want to vote for me. The Republican Party, whatever you want or however you want to phrase it, but I\u2019m the one running, and we are leading in every poll. We\u2019re leading in the local polls, in the state polls, and we\u2019re leading in the swing state polls, and we\u2019re leading very big in the national polls.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Trump called his poll numbers \u2018a very great honor.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We love the country,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018I\u2019m a believer in our country and I\u2019m a believer in the Supreme Court. I listened today and I thought our arguments were very, very strong.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Trump said his argument is \u2018very important.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The fact that you\u2019re leading in every race, you\u2019re leading in every state, you\u2019re leading in the country against both Republican and Democrat and Biden. You\u2019re leading in the country by a lot,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018And can you take the person that\u2019s leading everywhere and say, \u2018Hey, we\u2019re not going to let you run\u2019? You know, I think that\u2019s pretty tough to do.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u2018But I\u2019m leaving it up to the Supreme Court.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During arguments, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who was appointed by President Biden, said she understood Colorado\u2019s argument, but pointed out that in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, there is a list of people that can be barred \u2013 but the president is not one of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Why didn\u2019t they put the word president in the very enumerated list in Section 3?\u2019 Brown asked Colorado voters\u2019 lawyer Jason Murray. \u2018The thing that really is troubling to me is I totally understand your argument, but they were listing people that were barred and president is not there. And so I guess that just makes me worry that maybe they weren\u2019t focusing on the president.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The 14th Amendment, Section 3 of the Constitution states, \u2018No person shall\u2026 hold any office\u2026 under the United States\u2026 who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States\u2026 to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Justice Brett Kavanaugh spoke for colleagues when saying they were confronting \u2018difficult questions.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Many of the queries focused on whether state courts or elected state officials can unilaterally enforce constitutional provisions and declare candidates ineligible for public office \u2013 so-called \u2018self-executing\u2019 authority \u2013 or whether that is exclusively the jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress.\u00a0Chief Justice John Roberts warned of a \u2018pretty severe consequence\u2019 if disqualification proceedings came from \u2018the other side,\u2019 targeting Democratic candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I would expect that a goodly number of states will say, whoever the Democrat is, you\u2019re off the ballot,\u2019 Roberts said. \u2018It would then come down to a small number of states deciding the election.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Justice Elena Kagan questioned \u2018why a single state gets to decide who gets to be president of the United States?\u2019 calling that \u2018quite extraordinary.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>But Kagan also questioned whether it was \u2018contrary\u2019 to say the rule applies to other public office seekers, but does not apply to Trump.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fox News\u2019 Bill Mears, Shannon Bream, Chris Pandolfo,\u00a0Gabriele Regalbuto,\u00a0Anders Hagstrom,\u00a0and Lawrence Richard contributed to this report.<\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on FOX NEWS<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Trump said he is a \u2018believer\u2019 in the United States and a \u2018believer\u2019 in the Supreme Court after it heard arguments in Colorado\u2019s effort to remove him from the 2024 ballot in the state.
