{"id":15324,"date":"2024-02-09T12:47:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-09T12:47:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/09\/biden-retained-records-related-to-ukraine-china-comer-demands-unfettered-access-amid-impeachment-inquiry\/"},"modified":"2024-02-09T12:47:44","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T12:47:44","slug":"biden-retained-records-related-to-ukraine-china-comer-demands-unfettered-access-amid-impeachment-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/09\/biden-retained-records-related-to-ukraine-china-comer-demands-unfettered-access-amid-impeachment-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"Biden retained records related to Ukraine, China; Comer demands \u2018unfettered access\u2019 amid impeachment inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"speakable\">President Biden retained documents marked \u2018secret\u2019 and \u2018confidential\u2019 related to Ukraine and China, according to Special Counsel Robert Hur\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Hur, who released his report to the public on Thursday after months of investigating, did not recommend criminal charges against Biden for mishandling and retaining classified documents \u2014 and stated that he wouldn\u2019t bring charges against Biden even if he were not in the Oval Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those records included classified documents about military and foreign policy in Afghanistan and other countries, among other records related to national security and foreign policy, which Hur said implicated \u2018sensitive intelligence sources and methods.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Biden also kept classified documents related to Ukraine and China.<\/p>\n<p>House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., who is currently co-leading the impeachment inquiry against Biden, had asked Hur last year if any of the classified records Biden held were related to the countries that his family conducted business with.<\/p>\n<p>Comer is now demanding \u2018unfettered access to these documents to determine if President Biden\u2019s retention of sensitive materials were used to help the Bidens\u2019 influence peddling.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden, joined the board of Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings in June 2014. Hunter Biden also had joint business ventures with Chinese energy firms.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to the Ukraine documents, according to the special counsel report, Biden kept a September 2014 memo with the subject line \u2018U.S. Energy Assistance to Ukraine.\u2019 That memo was marked as confidential.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, at the time, did run U.S.-Ukraine policy.<\/p>\n<p>The report also states that the FBI located a green file folder Biden kept, labeled \u2018Ukraine 2\/19\/15.\u2019 That folder was inside an \u2018unlabeled green hanging folder.\u2019 Also, inside that folder was a red file folder labeled \u2018VP Personal.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media fn-video\">\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<div class=\"m video-player\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the \u2018VP Personal\u2019 file folder was a telephone call sheet from Dec. 12, 2015, and talking points for a call with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk. There is a handwritten note attached addressed to Biden\u2019s executive assistant that states: \u2018Get copy of this conversation from Sit Rm for my Records please.\u2019 The note is signed \u2018Joe.\u2019 That document was marked as \u2018Secret.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Attached to that document was another, dated Dec. 11, 2015. The report describes that document as \u2018a transcript documenting the substance of a Dec. 11, 2015 call between Mr. Biden and Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk.\u2019 The document is marked \u2018CONFIDENTIAL\u2019 and \u2018EYES ONLY DO NOT COPY.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The special counsel\u2019s report analyzes the documents, saying there \u2018is reasonable doubt that Mr. Biden willfully retained\u2019 the documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mr. Biden\u2019s handwritten note does not request that executive assistant save the classified call sheet containing talking points for the call (A9) in his records; rather, he only requested the transcript of the phone call itself,\u2019 the report states. \u2018And no jury could reasonably find that the substance of the call between Mr. Biden and the Ukrainian Prime Minister was national defense information.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The report states that Biden and the Ukrainian prime minister \u2018exchanged pleasantries and the Prime Minister heaped praise upon Mr. Biden for his December 9, 2015 speech to Ukraine\u2019s parliament.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They did not engage in a substantive policy discussion. There may be technical or nuanced reasons to maintain the classification of the call, but no reasonable jury could conclude the call or its contents were national defense information after the end of Obama administration, or that by asking for a transcript of the call Biden intended to retain national defense information,\u2019 the report states.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, on Dec. 9, 2015, gave a speech in which he discussed corruption in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And it\u2019s not enough to set up a new anti-corruption bureau and establish a special prosecutor fighting corruption,\u2019 Biden said in the speech. \u2018The Office of the General Prosecutor desperately needs reform.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In that speech, Biden also said Ukraine\u2019s \u2018energy sector needs to be competitive, ruled by market principles \u2014 not sweetheart deals.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s not enough to push through laws to increase transparency with regard to official sources of income,\u2019 he said. \u2018Senior elected officials have to remove all conflicts between their business interest and their government responsibilities.\u00a0 Every other democracy in the world \u2014 that system pertains.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Burisma Holdings was under investigation by Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin. Several months later, in March 2016, Biden successfully pressured Ukraine to remove Shokin. At the time Shokin was investigating Burisma Holdings, Hunter had a highly lucrative role on the board receiving tens of thousands of dollars per month.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, at the time, threatened to withhold $1 billion of critical U.S. aid if Shokin was not fired.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I said, \u2018You\u2019re not getting the billion. I\u2019m going to be leaving here in,\u2019 I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: \u2018I\u2019m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you\u2019re not getting the money,\u2019\u2019 Biden recalled telling then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Biden recollected the conversation during an event for the Council on Foreign Relations\u00a0in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Well, son of a b\u2014-, he got fired,\u2019 Biden said during the event. \u2018And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Biden allies maintain the then-vice president pushed for Shokin\u2019s firing due to concerns the Ukrainian prosecutor went easy on corruption, and say that his firing, at the time, was the policy position of the U.S. and international community.<\/p>\n<p>But Comer blasted the discovery of this information as \u2018concerning\u2019 and questioned the timeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s no secret Hunter Biden made millions by sitting on the board of Burisma when Joe Biden was Vice President and that Burisma benefited from the firing of Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin,\u2019 Comer told Fox News Digital, saying it is \u2018concerning Joe Biden retained classified materials related to Ukraine around the same timeframe he called for the firing of Viktor Shokin.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Justice Department must provide Congress with unfettered access to these documents to determine if President Biden\u2019s retention of sensitive materials were used to help the Bidens\u2019 influencing peddling schemes,\u2019 Comer said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, with regard to China, Biden retained a memo with the subject, \u2018Engagement with China in the Second Term.\u2019 That document \u2018suggests activities Vice President Biden could do in his second term to \u2018build on my work last year by engaging with China\u2019s leaders in the second term.\u2019\u00a0 The document was marked as confidential.<\/p>\n<p>Comer\u2019s investigation and the House impeachment inquiry is probing Hunter Biden and James Biden\u2019s Chinese business dealings, and whether Joe Biden was involved or had knowledge of the ventures.<\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on FOX NEWS<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Biden retained documents marked \u2018secret\u2019 and \u2018confidential\u2019 related to Ukraine and China, according to Special Counsel Robert Hur\u2019s report.
