{"id":15588,"date":"2024-02-15T12:48:08","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T12:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/15\/two-chinese-fishermen-drown-during-pursuit-by-taiwan-coast-guard\/"},"modified":"2024-02-15T12:48:08","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T12:48:08","slug":"two-chinese-fishermen-drown-during-pursuit-by-taiwan-coast-guard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/15\/two-chinese-fishermen-drown-during-pursuit-by-taiwan-coast-guard\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Chinese fishermen drown during pursuit by Taiwan coast guard"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            Two Chinese fishermen have drowned during a pursuit by Taiwan\u2019s coast guard for trespassing off the coast of Taiwan\u2019s Kinmen islands.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            According to the coast guard, an unnamed mainland Chinese vessel had trespassed within about one nautical mile off the coast of Kinmen \u2013 which lies nearer to mainland China than to Taiwan.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The vessel capsized while attempting to flee, causing four crew members aboard to fall into the water, it said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            \u201cThe coast patrol boat rescued two crew members and found another two unconscious crew members in the sea,\u201d the coast guard said in a statement Wednesday, adding that the two unconscious members were confirmed dead after being taken to the hospital.    <\/p>\n<div class=\"map\">\n<div class=\"map__container\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"map__caption\">        The Kinmen archipelago lies nearer to mainland China than to the rest of Taiwan.      <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            China\u2019s Taiwan Affairs Office strongly condemned the deaths and urged the Taiwan authorities to conduct a full investigation.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The Chinese Communist Party regards Taiwan, a self-governing democracy, as part of its territory, despite never having ruled it, and vessels from mainland China are frequently active in the waters near Kinmen due to its geographical proximity.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            China\u2019s Taiwan Affairs Office said in its statement about the fishermen\u2019s deaths that \u201csuch a vicious incident seriously hurt the feelings of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait during the Spring Festival,\u201d also known as the Lunar New Year holiday, celebrated by both mainland China and Taiwan.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            It also accused Taiwan\u2019s ruling Democratic Progressive Party of being the main reason for the incident, claiming it had used \u201cvarious excuses to forcefully seize mainland fishing boats and treat mainland fishermen roughly and dangerously.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            According to Taiwan\u2019s coast guard, the case is being investigated and the two rescued crew members have been brought to Kinmen.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The coast guard said they would contact the fishermen\u2019s families through official channels.    <\/p>\n\n<div>This post appeared first on cnn.com<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Chinese fishermen have drowned during a pursuit by Taiwan\u2019s coast guard for trespassing off the coast of Taiwan\u2019s Kinmen islands.
