{"id":15838,"date":"2024-02-21T07:47:09","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T07:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/21\/speaker-johnson-launches-bipartisan-artificial-intelligence-task-force\/"},"modified":"2024-02-21T07:47:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T07:47:09","slug":"speaker-johnson-launches-bipartisan-artificial-intelligence-task-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/21\/speaker-johnson-launches-bipartisan-artificial-intelligence-task-force\/","title":{"rendered":"Speaker Johnson launches bipartisan artificial intelligence \u2018task force\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"speakable\">House Speaker Mike Johnson is putting together a formal \u2018task force\u2019 to explore how the U.S. can stay competitive in the artificial intelligence (AI) sphere while also managing the rapidly evolving technology\u2019s risks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">\u2018Because advancements in artificial intelligence have the potential to rapidly transform our economy and our society, it is important for Congress to work in a bipartisan manner to understand and plan for both the promises and the complexities of this transformative technology,\u2019 Johnson, R-La., said in a Monday morning statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new project is bipartisan, having been the product of discussions between Johnson and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson said the task force would be made up of House lawmakers who have \u2018AI expertise and represent the relevant committees of jurisdiction.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Congress has a responsibility to facilitate the promising breakthroughs that artificial intelligence can bring to fruition and ensure that everyday Americans benefit from these advancements in an equitable manner,\u2019 Jeffries said. \u2018The rise of artificial intelligence also presents a unique set of challenges and certain guardrails must be put in place to protect the American people.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s co-chairs are members who have been some of the most vocal about AI \u2013 Rep. Jay Obernolte, R-Calif., the oversight subcommittee chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., who sits on the House Judiciary Committee\u2019s internet subcommittee.<\/p>\n<p>Both Obernolte and Lieu are also members of the House\u2019s AI Caucus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Johnson has not yet laid out a clear strategy on how he wants to handle AI, but he has taken strides to wrap his head around the issue since taking the speaker\u2019s gavel in October.
