House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan wrote a letter to Alphabet, Google\u2019s parent company, on Saturday, demanding the company explain what influence the Biden administration may have had on its controversial Gemini AI program.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Judiciary Committee asked for documents on the creation and deployment of the artificial intelligence chatbot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018The Committee is investigating how and to what extent the Executive Branch has coerced or colluded with Big Tech and other intermediaries to censor Americans\u2019 speech,\u2019 the House Judiciary Committee said in a Saturday news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gemini has faced backlash after it reportedly showed historical figures like George Washington appearing wrongfully as Black and a search for a \u2018pope\u2019 prompting a Black woman in Vatican garb. White Supremacist Nazis also were not White.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The chatbot also wasn\u2019t sure whether Adolf Hitler or Elon Musk was a worse influence on society.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A week ago, Google admitted to Fox News Digital that a failure by its AI chatbot to outright condemn pedophilia is both \u2018appalling and inappropriate\u2019 and a spokesperson vowed changes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Recent reporting alleges that the Executive Branch, most notably the Biden White House, may have influenced the development of Alphabet\u2019s Gemini AI model,\u2019 Jordan\u2019s letter to Alphabet said. \u2018On October 30, 2023, President Biden issued an Executive Order on the \u2018Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence,\u2019 which claimed to serve as an overarching guide to how the Biden Administration will approach issues like AI development and deployment.\u2019<\/p>\n

Jordan added that a report from Google\u2019s Gemini Team said the tool was evaluated by external groups, \u2018which were selected based on their alignment with the Biden White House Executive Order and \u2019White House Commitments\u2019\u2019 and the company \u2018claimed that it worked with these external groups \u2018to help identify areas for improvement,\u2019 including \u2018societal risk,\u2019 such as alleged \u2018representational harms.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Jordan\u2019s letter said the \u2018improvements\u2019 to Gemini showed its \u2018clear bias.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that reporting has suggested that Jack Krawczyk, who leads the Gemini program, and Jen Gennai, the Director of Google\u2019s Responsible Innovation team, \u2018expressed significant racial and political bias.\u2019<\/p>\n

He continued, \u2018Given that Alphabet has censored First Amendment-protected speech as a result of government agencies\u2019 requests and demands in the past, the Committee is concerned about potential First Amendment violations that have occurred with respect to Alphabet\u2019s Gemini model.\u2019<\/p>\n
