{"id":16658,"date":"2024-03-08T12:55:33","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T12:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/08\/idf-says-troops-fired-at-suspects-in-deadly-food-aid-incident-but-denies-targeting-convoy\/"},"modified":"2024-03-08T12:55:33","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T12:55:33","slug":"idf-says-troops-fired-at-suspects-in-deadly-food-aid-incident-but-denies-targeting-convoy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/08\/idf-says-troops-fired-at-suspects-in-deadly-food-aid-incident-but-denies-targeting-convoy\/","title":{"rendered":"IDF says troops fired at \u2018suspects\u2019 in deadly food aid incident but denies targeting convoy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            Israel\u2019s military has said its investigation into the deadly humanitarian aid incident in Gaza last month found Israeli troops did not fire at the aid convoy, but at \u201ca number of suspects\u201d who approached and posed a threat to nearby forces.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            More than 100 people were killed in the incident in northern Gaza,\u00a0which has become known as\u00a0the \u201cFlour Massacre,\u201d as Israeli troops opened fire near civilians gathering around food aid trucks, triggering panic.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            A local journalist in Gaza, Khader Al Za\u2019anoun, who was at the scene and witnessed the incident, said at the time that the chaos and confusion only began once Israeli troops opened fire, and that many of the victims were run over by trucks in the ensuing panic.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            \u201cThe command review found that\u00a0IDF\u00a0troops did not fire at the humanitarian convoy but did fire at a number of suspects who approached the nearby forces and posed a threat to them,\u201d the\u00a0IDF\u00a0said in a summary of the report released Friday.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The\u00a0IDF\u00a0said that thousands of Palestinians swarmed the aid trucks, which were traveling toward distribution centers, looting the trucks\u2019 equipment. They added that \u201cincidents of significant harm\u201d occurred to civilians from a stampede and being run over by trucks.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The\u00a0IDF\u00a0said during the crowding, dozens of Palestinians \u201cadvanced towards nearby\u00a0IDF\u00a0troops, up to several meters from them, and thereby posed a real threat to the forces at that point.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            \u201cAt this stage, the forces fired cautionary fire in order to distance the suspects. As the suspects continued to advance toward them, the troops fired precisely toward a number of the suspects to remove the threat,\u201d the\u00a0IDF\u2019s summary said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\">            The United Nations said earlier that most of the civilians wounded in the incident presented gunshot wounds.
