The White House on Tuesday downplayed remarks President Biden made earlier in the day in which he seemed to suggest that House Republicans were essentially \u2018killing millions of Americans\u2019 by slashing the Affordable Care Act.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The president spoke at an event at the nation\u2019s capital earlier on Tuesday, touting government spending on childcare and other investments.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During his speech, the president took a shot at House Republicans over their budget proposals which \u2018cut care giving programs by a third.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018It would mean 260,000 fewer kids in childcare,\u2019 Biden said before accusing former President Trump and his \u2018MAGA friends\u2019 of wanting to \u2018terminate the Affordable Care Act.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018Terminate it \u2013 well, guess what? \u2013 killing millions of Americans, take them off of healthcare insurance. It\u2019s stripping others of services like homecare folks,\u2019 Biden said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Later, Fox News\u2019 Jacqui Heinrich pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on whether the president meant \u2018to essentially accuse Republicans of murder.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jean-Pierre shot back that Heinrich was taking the most \u2018extreme evaluation of what the president said.\u2019 When Heinrich noted the president\u2019s language was \u2018stronger than usual,\u2019 Jean-Pierre again said she was \u2018taking what [Biden] said to the most extreme part of your definition.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
The White House press secretary slammed Republicans for voting to repeal affordable healthcare \u2018when it is saving people\u2019s lives.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018Why do they do that? Do they not want Americans to have\u2026 affordable health care to protect themselves, to save their lives? That\u2019s the question to be asked. The president\u2019s trying to do the right thing. He\u2019s trying to be where majority of Americans are and protect our health care, protect their Medicare,\u2019 Jean-Pierre said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Last month, the Biden-Harris campaign accused former President Trump of threatening \u2018political violence\u2019 after Trump, while speaking about the auto industry at a rally in Ohio, suggested there will be a \u2018bloodbath\u2019 if he doesn\u2019t win in the upcoming election in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Trump had been talking about China and how \u2018they think that they are going to sell\u2019 cars manufactured in Mexico to the U.S. \u2018with no tax at the border.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
After getting flak for the comment, Trump doubled down, using the word \u2018bloodbath\u2019 again several weeks later at a campaign event to criticize Biden\u2019s border policies. \u00a0<\/p>\n
