{"id":18409,"date":"2024-04-26T13:47:45","date_gmt":"2024-04-26T13:47:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/26\/trump-says-it-was-made-clear-that-a-president-has-to-have-immunity-during-monumental-scotus-arguments\/"},"modified":"2024-04-26T13:47:45","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T13:47:45","slug":"trump-says-it-was-made-clear-that-a-president-has-to-have-immunity-during-monumental-scotus-arguments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/26\/trump-says-it-was-made-clear-that-a-president-has-to-have-immunity-during-monumental-scotus-arguments\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump says it was \u2018made clear\u2019 that a president \u2018has to have immunity,\u2019 during \u2018monumental\u2019 SCOTUS arguments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"speakable\">Former President Trump reacted to the \u2018monumental\u2019 hearing on presidential immunity at the Supreme Court Thursday, saying he thinks it was \u2018made clear\u2019 that a president \u2018has to have immunity.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The former president spoke to reporters after sitting in a Manhattan courtroom for hours Thursday\u2014the seventh day of his criminal trial stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump has pleaded not guilty to all 34 charges of falsifying business records in the first degree.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Trump sat in court listening to witness testimony, the United States Supreme Court heard arguments on the issue of presidential immunity, and whether he is immune from prosecution in a separate case\u2014Special Counsel Jack Smith\u2019s case related to 2020 election interference.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump had requested to attend arguments in Washington D.C., but was rejected by New York Judge Juan Merchan, who has required the former president to be in court for each day of his criminal trial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I was forced to be here, and I\u2019m glad I was, because it was a very interesting day in a certain way,\u2019 Trump told reporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The U.S. Supreme Court had a monumental hearing on immunity and the immunity having to do with presidential immunity,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018And I think it was made clear, I hope it is very clear that a president has to have immunity.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media fn-video\">\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<div class=\"m video-player\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trump echoed his past argument that without immunity, the president would be reduced to just a \u2018ceremonial\u2019 position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That\u2019s not what the founders had in mind,\u2019 he said. \u2018We want presidents that can get quite amazing\u2014quite amazing.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The former president said the Supreme Court justices \u2018were on their game.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018So let\u2019s see how that turns out,\u2019 he said. \u2018But again, I say presidential immunity is very powerful.
