Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Marjorie Taylor Greene had a heated exchange Thursday evening during what was supposed to be a contempt hearing for Attorney General Merrick Garland.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The House Oversight Committee had originally been convened to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for refusing to comply with a subpoena to hand over an audio recording of President Biden\u2019s interview with a special counsel.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The hearing quickly spiraled out of control, with lawmakers bickering with one another. Less than an hour after the hearing was underway, Greene took shots at her Democratic colleague, Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018Do you know what we\u2019re here for?\u2019 Crockett asked Greene, who shot back: \u2018I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you\u2019re reading.\u2019<\/p>\n
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer pleaded for order amid audible groans in the chamber.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ocasio-Cortez weighed in saying: \u2018I do have a point of order, and I would like to move to take down Ms. Green\u2019s words. That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person\u2026 move her words down.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018Are your feelings hurt?\u2019 Greene asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018Oh girl, baby girl!\u2019 Ocasio-Cortez shot back. \u2018Don\u2019t even play!\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ocasio-Cortez pushed to have Greene\u2019s words \u2018taken down,\u2019 which is a procedure to give a speaker the chance to withdraw their words or amend them if they are deemed out of order.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Comer suspended the hearing while lawmakers weighed striking Greene\u2019s words. Ocasio-Cortez could be heard during discussion: \u2018No way is that being allowed\u2019 and \u2018not today.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018We\u2019re not going to do a smarmy apology. She has to actually apologize. And that needs to be up to Ms. Crockett as well,\u2019 Ocasio-Cortez said. \u2018It needs to be sincere.\u2019 \u00a0<\/p>\n
Greene later agreed to strike her words but refused to apologize and insulted Ocasio-Cortez\u2019s intelligence, prompting the Democratic Congresswoman to move to strike those words as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Later, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., who pushed for the court clerk to report the words, asked Greene again if she would apologize, to which she responded: \u2018You will never get an apology out of me.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
