{"id":19375,"date":"2024-05-21T12:47:15","date_gmt":"2024-05-21T12:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/21\/ex-israeli-pm-calls-for-defunding-icc-after-court-requests-arrest-warrant-for-netanyahu-over-war-crimes\/"},"modified":"2024-05-21T12:47:15","modified_gmt":"2024-05-21T12:47:15","slug":"ex-israeli-pm-calls-for-defunding-icc-after-court-requests-arrest-warrant-for-netanyahu-over-war-crimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shareperformanceinsight.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/21\/ex-israeli-pm-calls-for-defunding-icc-after-court-requests-arrest-warrant-for-netanyahu-over-war-crimes\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Israeli PM calls for defunding ICC after court requests arrest warrant for Netanyahu over \u2018war crimes\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"speakable\">Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday called for \u2018decent nations\u2019 to defund the International Criminal Court (ICC) after a court prosecutor filed applications for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas leaders for alleged \u2018war crimes.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Prosecutor Karim Khan said his office had collected evidence to give \u2018reasonable grounds\u2019 to believe Netanyahu and Gallant \u2018bear criminal responsibility for\u2026 war crimes and crimes against humanity committed on the territory of the State of Palestine.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Khan said those alleged crimes include \u2018starvation of civilians as a method of warfare\u2019 and \u2018intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said he is also seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, its top political leader Ismail Haniyeh, and its military commander Mohammed Deif.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bennet said the prosecutor\u2019s request was \u2018a moment of shame for the ICC\u00a0and the world community\u2019 and provided \u2018a huge boost to global Jihadi terror.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018An ICC that compares the executor of a deliberate murderous attack that included raping women and burning babies, with those who are defending themselves against it, is better off not existing,\u2019 Bennett said. \u2018It\u2019s time for the decent nations to defund the ICC.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He included the hashtag: \u2018DefundTheICC.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-media twitter\">\n<div class=\"tweet-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders condemned the move as disgraceful and antisemitic. U.S. President Joe Biden also lambasted the prosecutor and supported Israel\u2019s right to defend itself against Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>A panel of three judges will decide whether to issue the arrest warrants and allow a case to proceed. The judges typically take two months to make such decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Israel is not a member of the court, so even if the arrest warrants are issued, Netanyahu and Gallant do not face any immediate risk of prosecution.
