Americans\u00a0recognize\u00a0the\u00a0Chinese Communist Party as a serious\u00a0threat\u00a0to\u00a0our country. But many corners of\u00a0the\u00a0federal government do not want\u00a0to\u00a0talk about Communist China.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When\u00a0they do acknowledge it,\u00a0they censor\u00a0themselves by relying\u00a0on\u00a0neutral (or \u2018country agnostic\u2019) strategies\u00a0to\u00a0avoid\u00a0the\u00a0elephant in\u00a0the\u00a0room: China is our most dangerous adversary\u00a0and\u00a0will\u00a0use every tactic at its disposal\u00a0to\u00a0weaken America.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0House\u00a0Oversight\u00a0Committee\u00a0is demanding answers\u00a0from\u00a0federal agencies that do not \u2013 or will not \u2013 address\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0threat head-on, sometimes because agencies\u00a0themselves have succumbed\u00a0to\u00a0CCP\u00a0influence\u00a0methods.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For decades,\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0has waged an aggressive campaign intended\u00a0to\u00a0hobble America through political warfare, an insidious strategy\u00a0to\u00a0weaken our way of life without firing a shot.\u00a0The\u00a0committee\u2019s\u00a0government-wide\u00a0investigation\u00a0has brought federal agencies in\u00a0to\u00a0answer for\u00a0their tepid responses\u00a0and\u00a0has found\u00a0too much of\u00a0the\u00a0Washington bureaucracy is incapable or unwilling\u00a0to\u00a0address\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0threat.<\/p>\n

For example,\u00a0the\u00a0NASA administrator recently\u00a0congratulated\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0for obtaining\u00a0the\u00a0first samples of lunar rocks\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0far side of\u00a0the\u00a0moon, gushing that\u00a0the\u00a0discovery was \u2018an important step in humanity\u2019s work\u00a0to\u00a0understand\u00a0and\u00a0explore\u00a0the\u00a0lunar surface.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

This statement demonstrates a profound naivety regarding China\u2019s goals in space, which are inextricably intertwined with\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u2019s\u00a0militaristic\u00a0ambitions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Much of\u00a0the\u00a0American government seems\u00a0to\u00a0have forgotten that its purpose is\u00a0to\u00a0promote\u00a0the\u00a0interests of Americans. Indeed,\u00a0the\u00a0Space Race that prompted\u00a0the\u00a0creation\u00a0of NASA would not have been a much of a race at all if American leaders at\u00a0the\u00a0time had heaped laurels upon an adversary that has named America its\u00a0\u2018chief enemy.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

America would not have won\u00a0the\u00a0first Cold War if our leaders refused\u00a0to\u00a0openly identify Soviet\u00a0efforts\u00a0to\u00a0infiltrate\u00a0and\u00a0destroy America.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Certain agencies have shown signs of life.\u00a0The\u00a0National Science Foundation (NSF) warned\u00a0the\u00a0committee\u00a0that 90% of research security concerns involving all\u00a0U.S.\u00a0federally funded research originates in China. This kind of honest recognition of\u00a0CCP\u00a0political warfare should be emulated across\u00a0the\u00a0federal government.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But even NSF continues\u00a0to\u00a0use \u2018neutral\u2019 approaches\u00a0to\u00a0counter this threat, hamstringing\u00a0themselves\u00a0from\u00a0valuable\u00a0China expertise\u00a0in an attempt\u00a0to\u00a0not ruffle\u00a0CCP\u00a0feathers.<\/p>\n

Similarly,\u00a0the\u00a0Consumer Product Safety Commission\u00a0(CPSC) told\u00a0the\u00a0committee\u00a0that of 75% of\u00a0the\u00a0shipments it identified as high-risk last year, 83% had China as\u00a0the\u00a0country of origin. Yet CPSC rejected\u00a0the\u00a0committee\u2019s suggestion\u00a0the\u00a0agency should warn American consumers about\u00a0the\u00a0unique dangers of Chinese-made products.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CPSC should urge\u00a0and\u00a0help Americans discern when it is prudent\u00a0to\u00a0purchase goods manufactured in China. That is, after all, consistent with\u00a0the\u00a0entire purpose of its existence.<\/p>\n

Federal agencies\u2019 willful blindness\u00a0to\u00a0CCP\u00a0political warfare \u2013 evident in leaders\u2019 messaging about it\u00a0and\u00a0strategy\u00a0to\u00a0counter it \u2013 may be a function of\u00a0CCP\u00a0influence\u00a0itself.\u00a0The\u00a0Department of Justice\u2019s shuttering of\u00a0the\u00a0China Initiative in 2022 \u2013 after\u00a0DOJ\u00a0found\u00a0no merit\u00a0to charges that cases brought under\u00a0the\u00a0initiative were racially motivated \u2013 is an embarrassment\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0sole agency responsible for enforcing our country\u2019s national security laws.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DOJ refuses\u00a0to\u00a0say whether it has investigated\u00a0the\u00a0origins\u00a0of what it found\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0unsubstantiated claims of racial bias in China Initiative cases. DOJ\u2019s evasiveness is significant.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DOJ acknowledges\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0uses \u2018wedge narratives\u2019 that push racially divisive agendas intended\u00a0to\u00a0divide Americans\u00a0from\u00a0all backgrounds. But DOJ itself appears\u00a0to\u00a0have been\u00a0influenced\u00a0to\u00a0stop\u00a0prioritizing cases against\u00a0the\u00a0CCP.<\/p>\n

There will be no \u2018shot heard round\u00a0the\u00a0world\u2019 in a war against\u00a0the\u00a0CCP.\u00a0The\u00a0creeping political warfare has already begun,\u00a0and\u00a0federal agencies must first acknowledge that we are in a new Cold War.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0enemy is an authoritarian regime that, among other atrocities, enslaves its own people\u00a0and\u00a0has killed\u00a0tens of thousands\u00a0of Americans each year indirectly through its central role in\u00a0the\u00a0fentanyl crisis corroding our country, according\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0Drug Enforcement Administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0DEA is\u00a0one of\u00a0the\u00a0few agencies that seems willing\u00a0to\u00a0confront\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0threat directly as it\u00a0messages candidly about deadly\u00a0fentanyl\u00a0precursors originating in China,\u00a0the\u00a0role Chinese transnational criminal organizations play in trafficking,\u00a0and\u00a0China\u2019s surpassing\u00a0the\u00a0Mexican cartels in money laundering.<\/p>\n

Federal agencies must wake up\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0CCP\u00a0threat by engaging with\u00a0and\u00a0inspiring Americans\u00a0to\u00a0push back against infiltration\u00a0and\u00a0influence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0good news is that, in many ways,\u00a0the\u00a0American people are better prepared for\u00a0the\u00a0confrontation than\u00a0their own government, because\u00a0they have maintained what seems\u00a0to\u00a0have been lost in Washington, D.C.: pride in\u00a0themselves\u00a0and\u00a0their country.\u00a0The\u00a0Oversight\u00a0Committee\u00a0expects no less\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0American government.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
