Dr. Anthony Fauci on Sunday spoke about President Biden\u2019s age following the president\u2019s much-criticized debate performance against former President Trump.<\/p>\n
Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, appeared on ABC\u2019s \u2018This Week\u2019 and was asked about whether Biden, who is 81 years old, should be running for re-election.<\/p>\n
\u2018You know, I think it\u2019s just an individual choice, and you really can\u2019t generalize,\u2019 Fauci said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fauci, who helped lead the nation\u2019s response to the coronavirus pandemic, said one must look at each person as an individual and evaluate \u2018how they feel, what they feel they can do.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018You know, what their passion is, what their energy is,\u2019 Fauci said. \u2018Those are the kind of things.\u2019<\/p>\n
When asked if he was surprised by anything he saw during Thursday\u2019s presidential debate, Fauci said he did not want to comment on anything that \u2018would have political implications.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
He added that what he felt comfortable speaking about were his \u2018very positive\u2019 dealings with Biden during their time working together.<\/p>\n
\u2018He asks probing questions. He\u2019s right on point on things,\u2019 Fauci said of Biden, without going into detail on specific instances. \u2018So my personal experience has been quite positive with him.\u2019<\/p>\n
With a raspy voice and delivering rambling answers,\u00a0Biden struggled\u00a0during portions of Thursday night\u2019s debate. He also lost his train of thought several times, raising concerns among some Democrats and in the media.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the wake of the debate, both The New York Times and Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial boards have called on Biden to step down as the Democratic nominee.<\/p>\n
The Democratic National Committee, however, has said it will continue to support Biden as the nominee.<\/p>\n
